THE QUIDDISH QURBANA (HOLY MASS)

Celebrating our Quiddish Qurbana (Aramaic Holy and Divine Liturgy, Mass) at St. Michael the Archangel Parish.

The center of our liturgical life relating to worship is the Quiddish Qurbana or the Holy and Divine Liturgy (Mass) of Saint James, which stands as the oldest Liturgy in the Catholic Orthodox Church. We celebrate Traditional Mass, Contemporary Mass, and once a month, a dedicated Physical, Spiritual, and Emotional Healing Mass.

Through Holy Communion, the faithful receive the Divine Presence of Christ’s Body and Blood via the Epiclesis (the invocation of the Holy Spirit to consecrate the bread and wine of the Eucharist) under the appearances of leavened bread and wine.

To receive Holy Communion, the Church's communicants must meet the following criteria:

Be baptized in the Holy Consecrated Water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Confess their sins to the Lord in the presence of a licit priest of the Church of the East

Believe in the Divine Presence of Jesus (Eshoa’) in the Consecrated Bread and Wine, which supernaturally becomes the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

During the distribution, our priest places the Body and Blood of Christ directly into the mouth of the communicant. The Holy Liturgy can only be celebrated by an ordained, consecrated Church of the East Volunteer Priest and Bishop, or an OCA-UAOC priest in canonical relationship with his bishop and our Archbishop/Metropolitan, Mar John, O.S.J. Active and believing Sacramental Catholic and Orthodox clergy and parishioners are welcome to receive Holy Communion, provided they have no major or mortal sins in their lives.

"Freely received from God, freely give to others."

— ST. MATT. 10:8

The Holy Mysteries and Sacraments celebrated within our canonical order include:

OUR HOLY SACRAMENTS

Holy Baptism & Chrismation (Confirmation)

These two foundational mysteries are always administered together and never separated.

Holy Confession (Absolution)

Available individually in cases of serious sin, and also offered before the Holy Liturgy. You may contact Bishop John directly to arrange a confession to the Lord.

Holy Orders

Consecrating the clergy to serve the body of Christ. As with all Orthodox tradition, our priests

may be married or celibate.

Traditional Holy Matrimony

Reaffirming traditional sacramental boundaries, celebrated exclusively between a naturally born man and woman.

Holy Unction

The sacred anointing of the sick for spiritual, emotional, and physical restoration, as well as a source of divine grace, comfort, and preparation for those facing the final journey of life.

The Sign of the Cross

Historically recognized and venerated as a Sacrament within the tradition of our Church of the East

OUR THEOLOGICAL STANCE

As an organic part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, we stand firmly upon faith in Jesus

Christ as the incarnate Son of God. We believe in and deeply venerate the Theotokos (the Mother of God),

frequently praying the Holy Rosary and, at certain times, the Jesus Rope Prayer before the Sunday morning

Mass.

We stand upon the Holy Scriptures as the divinely inspired word of God, penned by holy men (the Apostles of the Church) under the direction and inspiration of His Majesty the Holy Spirit, containing all elements

necessary for our corporate and individual salvation.

EUCHARISTIC DISCIPLINE & UNITY

Members of our Catholic Orthodox Church of the East, The orthodox church of America - Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (OCA-UAOC), are strongly urged to respect the discipline

of other Sacramental Catholic or Orthodox Churches. On special occasions, our Orthodox Church of the East

priests can distribute Holy Communion to Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians. We ask all our

faithful to join us in continuous prayer for structural and spiritual unity within our Catholic and Orthodox

Churches.
